Turning Your Static Google Site Into a Secure Members-Only Club

Lesson 1: Gathering your tools, mapping your folder structure, and preparing your site architecture.

Welcome to IdeasNut.com! Have you ever wanted to turn a simple, free Google Site into a secure, professional membership website where people can sign up, log in, and access exclusive content—without paying a single cent for hosting? That is our main project goal! We'll build this in bite-sized pieces over a series of lessons.

To see the build visit the Google Site @ https://sitestrack.ideasnut.com

STEP 1: GATHERING YOUR FREE TOOLS

The Free Google Code Stack

To make our static pages dynamic, we will use a suite of free developer tools built for Google users. Each tool plays a specific role:

  • Google AI Studio: Your personal AI coding assistant. Type plain-English prompts, and it writes secure code for you.
  • Google Apps Script: The background engine that brings your login forms and databases to life.
  • Google Firestore (Firebase): The secure digital filing cabinet where user accounts and activity records are stored.
  • Google Firebase Auth: The guardian at the door handling secure sign-ups, passwords, and verifications.
STEP 2: GOOGLE SITES FOLDER ARCHITECTURE

Creating the Members Menu and Folder Layout

Before writing code, we need a clean filing system inside Google Sites. Create a main menu item called Members and organize your subfolders like this:

📁 Memberships (Parent Folder: Sign-in Access Only) ├── 📁 Member Pages (Where everyday members go) │ ├── 📁 Content (Exclusive articles, downloads, or videos) │ └── 📁 Admin (Where members change passwords & avatars) └── 📁 Site Admin (Owner-Only Access) ├── 📁 Admin (Manage, suspend, or remove users) └── 📁 Reports (Charts and graphs showing who is visiting)

Why this structure matters: Google Sites lets you lock down permissions at the folder level. By placing private content under a parent folder requiring sign-in access, casual visitors cannot accidentally wander into protected areas.

🚀 What's Coming Next?

Now that your tools are gathered and your Google Site folder structure is set up, you have laid a solid foundation. In the upcoming lessons, we will build our very first interactive pages—starting with the secure Login and Sign-Up page!
